On any given night in Toronto 184 women and their 238 children sleep in shelters because it is not safe to stay at home.
With many shelters operating above their capacity already, some women and their children are turned away due to a lack of space. This is preventable and we must work together to end violence against women and children, and violence in our communities.
Since violence and aggression is a learned behaviour we can interrupt the cycle of violence. Through outreach initiatives, violence prevention programs, and dedicated staff who work with children who have been impacted by violence, North York Women’s Shelter is actively taking a role in ending violence against women and children.
