About Volunteering

Volunteer FAQs

1. How do I become a volunteer?

The first step to becoming a volunteer is to submit an online application form after which you’ll receive a welcome email. For a list of current volunteer opportunities, click HERE. Your application will then be reviewed and if your experience matches the desired qualifications for an open volunteer role, you will be contacted for an interview. If we do not have any volunteer roles available at this time, consider joining our Volunteer Mailing List. We have both long-term roles and one-off opportunities throughout the year.

2. Can I volunteer in the shelter?

The opportunity to volunteer within the shelter does arise occasionally for candidates with the skills and experience needed for shelter services roles. We require that shelter volunteers commit to a one 4 hour shift per week, for a minimum of six months, and submit a recent police record check. Additionally, all shelter volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation and on the job training.

3. Can I volunteer on the weekends?

There is the opportunity to get involved with planning and staffing Special Events on evenings and weekends throughout the year. These volunteer roles can take place in locations other than the shelter. We do ask that volunteers occasionally attend training during office hours.

4. How old do I need to be to volunteer?

To volunteer in the shelter, you must be at least 18 years of age and able to submit a police record check. To volunteer in the office, we ask that volunteers be at least 16 years of age and have a guardian co-sign their volunteer agreement.
